SINGAPORE — Mediacorp on Monday (Nov 5) launched a new digital radio application to give listeners a more “personalised, interactive and high-quality audio journey”.

According to a press release by Mediacorp, the new MeRadio app will allow users to select and follow any or all of the company’s 11 radio stations, as well as to subscribe to podcasts.

The app will push content tailored to listeners’ tastes and habits, such as on-demand podcasts, bite-sized breaking news and insights from DJs’ social media accounts.

Mr Indranil Sarkar, Lead for Partnerships & New Business, said: “MeRadio showcases the best of Mediacorp’s live and on-demand audio content while catering to each listener’s unique habits and preferences”.

“We hope our listeners will like the intelligent and interactive features that our product development team has worked hard to develop over the past six months.”

He added that the upgraded audio-streaming infrastructure will deliver up to 33 per cent higher bitrate to listeners and reduce lag-time by up to 66 per cent, providing higher quality streaming experience on the go.

The reconfigured feed within the app will also gather real-time feedback on listeners’ reactions to songs on rotation.

App users can also participate in pop quizzes to unlock amusing anecdotes on DJs from the stations that they are following.

According to the latest Nielsen Radio Survey, there are some 900,000 Singaporeans who are digital radio listeners today. Out of this group, 69 per cent are between the age of 15 and 44.
