528 new Covid-19 cases in Singapore, bringing total to 16,169
SINGAPORE — Singapore has confirmed 528 new cases of Covid-19, said the Ministry of Health (MOH) in a press release on Thursday (April 30).
SINGAPORE — Singapore has confirmed 528 new cases of Covid-19 on Thursday (April 30), bringing the total number of cases here to 16,169.
Of the 528 new cases, nine infections were cases from the community. Six of those cases are Singaporeans or permanent residents while three are work pass holders.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) said in a press release that the number of new cases in the community has decreased, from an average of 25 cases a day in the week before, to an average of 14 a day in the past week.
It added that the number of unlinked cases in the community has also decreased, from an average of 17 cases a day in the week before, to an average of seven a day in the past week.
“We will continue to closely monitor these numbers, as well as the cases detected through our surveillance programme,” MOH said.
Of the remaining cases, 488 infections were linked to foreign workers residing in the dormitories and 31 others were linked to those staying outside the dormitories.
MOH said that the main increase on Thursday continues to be for work permit holders residing in dormitories, “where we are picking up many more cases because of extensive testing”.
The ministry added that most of these cases have a mild illness and are being monitored in the community isolation facilities or general ward of our hospitals.
“Three are in the intensive care unit,” MOH said.
The health ministry also identified 12 new clusters of infections, including at the Institute of Mental Health.
The other locations are 9 Benoi Crescent, 24 Benoi Place, 2 Fan Yoong Road, 10 Gul Drive, 23 Kaki Bukit Road 6, 17 Soon Lee Road, JTC Space @ Tuas (16 Tuas Avenue 1), 1 Tuas Avenue 10, 2 Tuas Avenue 10, 81 Tuas South Street 5 and 54/56 Tuas View Square.
UPDATE ON THE REST OF THE CASES
In all, MOH said that 1,244 people have fully recovered from the Covid-19 infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities, including the 56 discharged on Thursday.
There are currently 1,708 confirmed cases who are still in hospital.
Of these, most are in stable condition or improving, and 22 patients are in critical condition under intensive care.
MOH said that 13,202 patients are isolated and cared for at community facilities.
These are those who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19.
Fifteen have died from complications due to Covid-19 infection, including a 58-year-old woman who died on Thursday.
She was the youngest fatality in the country thus far.
