SINGAPORE — Singapore has confirmed 94 new cases of Covid-19, including 10 that are imported and four that are in the community. The remaining 80 are migrant workers staying in dormitories.

In a press release on Friday (Aug 28), the Ministry of Health (MOH) said that the 10 imported cases comprise seven Singaporeans or permanent residents, one dependant’s pass holder, one long-term visit pass holder and one short-term visit pass holder.

The short-term visit pass holder — a 58-year-old Indonesian woman — was allowed entry into Singapore as she has been seeking medical treatment here.

She was taken directly to the hospital upon her arrival in Singapore, MOH said.

The remaining nine imported cases — which includes a six-year-old girl — had all arrived from India between Aug 12 and 18.

They were placed on a 14-day stay-home notice and tested positive while serving their notices at dedicated facilities.

The four cases in the community involved Singapore citizens, MOH said.

Of these, three cases were linked to past infections and had already been quarantined.

The ministry said that investigations are ongoing for the unlinked case: A 25-year-old woman.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has remained stable at an average of two cases a day in the past two weeks, MOH said.

The number of unlinked cases in the community has also remained stable at an average of one case a day in the past 14 days.

MAJORITY OF DORMITORY CASES FROM SUNGEI TENGAH LODGE

MOH said that 58 of the cases involving the migrant workers on Friday are from the Sungei Tengah Lodge, which was reported as a new cluster on Aug 22.

Around 4,500 workers were placed on quarantine after cases were detected there and about 3,000 of them have been tested so far.

"We expect the number of cases from the dormitory to continue to be high in the coming days as we complete testing of the remaining quarantined workers," the ministry said.

Separately, MOH said that it has been monitoring existing clusters for any further transmission.

“As there have been no more cases linked to Bukit Panjang Integrated Transport Hub for the past two incubation periods, the cluster has now been closed,” it said.

UPDATES ON THE REMAINING CASES

The total number of infections in Singapore now stands at 56,666.

Of these, 55,337 people have fully recovered and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, including 198 on Friday.

There are still 71 patients in hospitals and most are in stable condition or improving. No one is in intensive care.

Another 1,231 patients are isolated and being cared for at community facilities. They have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still tested positive for Covid-19.

Twenty-seven people have died from complications due to Covid-19.
