SINGAPORE — Singapore reported eight new cases of Covid-19 on Friday (Dec 11), seven of which were imported.

The remaining case was locally transmitted — a foreign worker who stays in a dormitory and who had no symptoms.

All his close contacts at the dormitory and his workplace had been placed on quarantine, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said in its evening update on the coronavirus situation here.

The seven imported cases include three Singaporeans: A 19-year-old girl who arrived from the United Kingdom, a 42-year-old man who came from Indonesia, and a 52-year-old man who returned from the United Arab Emirates.

Two cases are work permit holders, a 44-year-old man who arrived from Malaysia and a 40-year-old woman who arrived from India.

The remaining imported cases were a 20-year-old female dependant’s pass holder who arrived from the UK, and a 26-year-old short-term visit pass holder who arrived from the Philippines for her marriage to a Singaporean.

All seven had been placed on stay-home notices upon their arrival in Singapore and were tested for the coronavirus.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has remained low with a total of one case in the past week, which is linked to a previously confirmed infection, MOH said.

UPDATES ON REMAINING CASES

The total number of infections in Singapore now stands at 58,305.

Of these, 58,192 people have fully recovered and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, including four on Friday.

There are still 29 patients in hospitals and most are in stable condition or improving. No one is in intensive care.

Another 55 patients are isolated at community facilities. They have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still tested positive for Covid-19.

Twenty-nine people have died from complications due to the disease.
