SINGAPORE — Singapore on Thursday (Dec 3) reported nine new cases of Covid-19, eight of which are imported. The remaining one is a case in a foreign worker dormitory.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) said that all nine who were diagnosed have no symptoms.

The imported cases include a 17-year-old Singaporean boy and two permanent residents aged 21 and 30 who returned from the United States.

Two more were work pass holders who had arrived from Nepal while the others include a dependant’s pass holder from France as well as two short-term visit pass holders who had arrived from Indonesia to visit their Singaporean family members and fiance.

All eight of them had been placed on stay-home notices upon their arrival in Singapore and they were tested for the coronavirus.

The ninth case on Thursday is a foreign worker residing in a dormitory who was detected through MOH’s “proactive surveillance”.

“His polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test yielded a very high Ct value, which is indicative of a low viral load. All his close contacts at the dormitory and his workplace have been isolated and placed on quarantine,” MOH said.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has remained low with a total of four cases in the past week who have no known links to other infections so far.

UPDATES ON REMAINING CASES

The total number of infections in Singapore now stands at 58,239.

Of these, 58,145 people have fully recovered and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, including one on Thursday.

There are still 26 patients in hospitals and most are in stable condition or improving. No one is in intensive care.

Another 39 patients are isolated at community facilities. They have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still tested positive for Covid-19.

Twenty-nine people have died from complications due to the disease.
