Covid-19: 53 new locally transmitted infections in Singapore, including 32 linked to cluster at KTV lounges

SINGAPORE — Singapore on Friday (July 16) recorded 53 new locally transmitted cases of Covid-19, 32 of which have been traced to the growing cluster at karaoke lounges and clubs.

SINGAPORE — Singapore on Friday (July 16) recorded 53 new locally transmitted cases of Covid-19, 32 of which have been traced to the growing cluster at karaoke lounges and clubs.

This brings the total number of cases in the cluster to 120.

There are now seven coronavirus patients in Singapore who require supplemental oxygen and one in critical condition under intensive care, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said in a statement.

Five of Friday’s locally transmitted cases have not been linked to any previous infections.

Of the 48 linked cases, 24 were detected while in quarantine and 24 through surveillance testing.

The 53 locally transmitted cases were among a total of 61 new Covid-19 cases preliminarily confirmed on Friday.

The remaining eight were imported and had been placed on stay-home notices or isolated on arrival in Singapore.

Of the imported cases, two were detected on arrival and six developed the disease while in isolation or while serving a stay-home notice.

The total number of coronavirus infections in Singapore is now 62,913.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has surged from 21 in the week before to 179 in the past week.

The number of community cases with no known sources of infection has also increased from nine in the week before to 20 in the past week.

The seven-day moving average number of all linked community cases and all unlinked community cases are 22.7 and 2.9 respectively.

Two new clusters emerged on Friday.

One is linked to Jurong Fishery Port and Hong Lim Market and Food Centre, the other is Khoi Grill and Hotpot restaurant in the Jalan Besar area.

In total, there are 27 active clusters, with between three and 120 infections each.

There are 184 Covid-19 patients in hospital. Most are well and under observation.

Over the last 28 days, 17 patients needed oxygen support, were put under intensive care or died. Thirteen were unvaccinated, four were partially vaccinated and none was fully vaccinated.

As of 15 July 2021, about 6.57 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered under the national vaccination programme, covering 4.1 million people.

Around 2.55 million people have completed the full vaccination regimen, consisting of 71,877 recovered persons who received at least one dose and 2.47 million who had their second shot.
