SINGAPORE — Singapore has confirmed 327 new cases of Covid-19, including nine that are in the community, three that are imported and 315 that comprise migrant workers staying in the dormitories.

In a press release on Friday (July 17), the Ministry of Health (MOH) said that one of the imported cases is a 52-year-old Singaporean man who had arrived from the Philippines on July 6, The other two imported cases — both one-year-old babies — had arrived from India on June 26 and July 15.

They had all tested positive for the coronavirus while serving their 14-day stay-home notice, MOH said.

For the nine cases in the community, six are Singaporeans, two are work pass holders and the other one is a work permit holder.

Eight of those community cases have been linked to previous cases or clusters.

The sole unlinked case — a 72-year-old Singaporean woman — had been hospitalised for reasons not related to the coronavirus and had died on Wednesday, MOH said.

“The woman had been taken to the National University Hospital’s emergency department on July 15 for reasons not related to Covid-19, and had a history of diabetes mellitus. She was confirmed to have Covid-19 infection on July 16 after her (death). The cause of death is intracerebral haemorrhage,” the health ministry said.

All the identified close contacts of the case have been isolated and placed on quarantine, while her household members will undergo serological tests, MOH said.

A serological test is used to check if a person had an infection in the past, or on someone who is asymptomatic or has a very low viral load.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has gone down from an average of 16 a day in the week before to 11 a day in the past week.

The number of unlinked cases in the community has dipped from an average of eight a day in the week before to six a day in the past week.

“We will continue to closely monitor these numbers, as well as the cases detected through our surveillance programme,” MOH said.

Separately, the health ministry said that it had identified a new cluster at a construction site at Paya Lebar Quarter Tower 2.

UPDATES ON THE REMAINING CASES

In all, the total number of infections here now stands at 47,453.

Of these, 43,577 have fully recovered and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, including the 321 on Friday.

There are still 165 patients who are still in hospital. Of these, most are stable or improving, and none is in the intensive care unit.

Another 3,684 patients are isolated and cared for at community facilities. These are those who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19.

Twenty-seven people have died from complications due to Covid-19 infection.
