151 new Covid-19 cases in Singapore; daily tally falls below 200 for first time in over 2 months

SINGAPORE — Singapore confirmed 151 new cases of Covid-19 on Tuesday (June 16), the Ministry of Health (MOH) said in a statement.
This is the first time the daily tally has fallen below 200 in more than two months, since 191 cases were reported on April 11.
MOH said there were two new community cases who are work permit holders, while the remaining 149 infections were linked to foreign workers residing in the dormitories.
The community cases were detected as a result of the ministry’s proactive screening of workers in essential services even though they are asymptomatic.
MOH said that apart from the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, it had also conducted serological tests to determine if the two community cases are current or past infections.
The serological test result for one case has come back positive, which indicates a “likely past infection” while the test results for the remaining infection is pending, the health ministry said.
Overall, MOH said that the number of new cases in the community has decreased from an average of nine cases a day in the week before, to an average of seven cases a day in the past week.
It added that the number of unlinked cases in the community has also decreased from an average of four cases a day in the week before, to an average of three cases a day in the past week.
“We will continue to closely monitor these numbers, as well as the cases detected through our surveillance programme,” MOH said.
UPDATES ON THE REST OF THE CASES
In all, MOH said that 31,163 people have fully recovered from the infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, including the 797 on Tuesday.
There are currently 269 patients who are still in hospital, MOH said.
Of these, most are stable or improving, and two patients are in critical condition under intensive care.
MOH said that 9,511 patients are isolated and cared for at community facilities. These are those who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19.
To date, 26 people have died from complications due to Covid-19 infection.
