SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) on Thursday (June 25) announced 113 new cases of Covid-19 in Singapore, bringing the total number of infections here to 42,736.

There were five cases in the community while the remaining 108 infections were linked to foreign workers living in dormitories.

Of the five community cases, one is a Singaporean, two are work pass holders and another two are work permit holders.

The Singaporean — a 50-year-old man who developed an onset of symptoms on June 19 — was picked up when he sought medical treatment.

The other four had no symptoms. Two of them were picked up as a result of MOH’s proactive surveillance and screening because they were working in essential services while the other two had already been placed on quarantine order.

MOH said that besides the polymerase chain reaction test, it had also conducted serological tests to determine if some of these community cases are current or past infections.

“The serological test results for four of today’s cases (involving the four workers) have come back positive, which indicate likely past infection.”

Overall, the ministry noted that the number of new cases in the community has gone down from an average of seven cases a day in the week before to an average of four cases day in the past week.

The number of cases with no known sources of infection in the community has also remained stable at an average of two cases a day in the past two weeks.

“We will continue to closely monitor these numbers, as well as the cases detected through our surveillance programme,” MOH said.

UPDATE ON REST OF THE CASES

MOH said that a total of 36,604 people have fully recovered from the coronavirus and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, including the 305 on Thursday.

There are still 189 patients in hospitals. Of these, most are in stable condition or improving, and one is in critical condition under intensive care.

Another 5,917 patients are isolated and cared for at community facilities. These are those who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19.

Twenty-six people have died from complications due to Covid-19.
