SINGAPORE — Singapore has confirmed 22 new cases of Covid-19, including three that are imported and one that is in the community. The remaining 18 are migrant workers staying in dormitories.

This is Singapore’s lowest single-day tally since March 16, when 17 cases were reported.

All the infections were asymptomatic, the Ministry of Health (MOH) noted.

In a press release on Monday (Sept 7), it said that the three new imported cases comprise one permanent resident, one work permit holder and one dependant’s pass holder.

They had arrived in Singapore from India and the Philippines on Aug 26. All three had been placed on a 14-day stay-home notice and tested positive while serving their notices at dedicated facilities.

The one case in the community is a 35-year-old work pass holder who has no known links to past cases or infections.

The man was detected as a result of the ministry’s Rostered Routine Testing of workers in the construction, marine and process sectors who are not staying at dormitories.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has gone down from an average of three cases a day in the week before to an average of two a day in the past week.

The number of cases in the community with no known sources of infection has increased from an average of one case a day in the week before to an average of two a day in the past week.

Of the 18 new cases involving migrant workers in dormitories, nine had been identified earlier as contacts of previous cases.

The remaining nine were detected through surveillance testing, such as the Rostered Routine Testing and the testing of those with acute respiratory infection symptoms.

UPDATES ON REMAINING CASES

The total number of infections in Singapore now stands at 57,044.

Of these, 56,408 people have fully recovered and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, including 75 on Monday.

There are still 51 patients in hospitals and most are in stable condition or improving. No one is in intensive care.

Another 558 patients are isolated and being cared for at community facilities. They have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still tested positive for Covid-19.

Twenty-seven people have died from complications due to Covid-19.
