SINGAPORE – Mr Lim Boon Heng, who will take over as Chairman of Temasek Holdings next month, has described his appointment as “a good challenge”.

Mr Lim, a former cabinet minister and ex-NTUC Secretary-General, is currently a board member at Temasek Holdings.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a scholarship presentation ceremony this morning (July 27), Mr Lim said he finds the staff at Temasek Holdings well-qualified, gifted and driven.

Mr Lim said: “Working as a team, there is a great alignment of the interest of individual and the interest of the company. And there is good corporate governance, which means that things are done properly, and the systems are such that we ensure that everything is done right to the best of our knowledge.”

103 applications were received for the inaugural Lim Boon Heng Scholarship.

Set up last year by the Jurong Central and Jurong Spring Citizens’ Consultative Committees, it aims to recognise Mr Lim’s contributions to Jurong where he was Grassroots Adviser for 10 years.

One of the two recipients, Ms Lim Ya Huay Dorisa said the key to balancing community service and school work is time management and balancing priorities.

She received S$10,000 and is currently a second-year student, pursing a Double Degree in Business Management and Social Sciences at the Singapore Management University. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
