SINGAPORE — The Republic’s first indoor firing range was officially launched today (Oct 4) at the Pasir Laba Camp, and the three-storey complex will allow more soldiers to complete their marksmanship training and tests quicker.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Multi-Mission Range Complex (MMRC), Defence Minister Dr Ng Eng Hen said the complex marks an important milestone for the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and is an example of how the army uses technology to achieve its goals and mission.
The three-storey MMRC has seven firing ranges — two 50m ranges, two 100m ranges, two multi-tiered ranges and an urban operations range — which can track and monitor the shooting performance of individual soldiers in real time, so that they can receive almost instantaneous feedback on their performance.
The special lighting at the complex allows day and night conditions to be simulated and units can also hold day and night shooting training within a few hours of each other.
The seven ranges will also allow three times as many soldiers to complete their marksmanship tests in a day.
Since the complex came into service six months ago, over 22,000 servicemen have undergone marksmanship training there. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
