NTU psychology students to retake final paper after it appeared online ahead of test; school apologises to affected students

SINGAPORE — Nanyang Technological University (NTU) students taking a psychology course will have to retake their final test after the paper was posted online before the test began.

SINGAPORE — Nanyang Technological University (NTU) students taking a psychology course will have to retake their final test after the paper was posted online before the test began.

A spokesperson for the university offered the school's apology to the students, adding that the date of the retest will be decided at a future date.

The final test for HP2200, a biological psychology course, was conducted physically and online at 9.30am on Nov 7.

Most students took it in person, but those who had Covid-19 took the test online.

However, the school then found out that the test paper had already been put up on the school’s student learning platform before the test started.

“We are very disappointed with what happened,” Associate Professor Chia Wai Mun of NTU’s School of Social Sciences said in a statement on Monday (Nov 14).

“We apologise to the students for having to retake the test, but this is necessary to ensure fairness to everyone.

“We will conduct a thorough review of our exam procedures and take necessary measures to avoid similar incidents in future.”

Professor Chia also said that the school has reached out to the students, who agreed that a retest would be fair, and that the school is working with the students to arrange a suitable date.

A second-year psychology student of NTU who wanted to remain anonymous told TODAY: “I just thought it was really bad on the technical end. It was definitely avoidable.”
