SINGAPORE — Mixed martial arts (MMA) fans will now be able to watch their favourite One Championship fighters in action on their mobile devices free-of-charge with the launch of the new One Championship mobile application on Monday (May 14).

The app, which is available for download on the Android and iOS platforms, will provide fans with free access to all One Championship live events, including its upcoming event, One: Unstoppable Dreams, at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Friday.

All its content will be streamed in full high definition (HD), and users will also be able to view statistics and detailed background information of the One Championship athletes.

Mr Chatri Sityodtong, One Championship’s chairman and chief executive officer, unveiled the app at a press conference for the One: Unstoppable Dreams event on Monday.

“It is my honour and my pleasure to see some of the greatest martial artists on the planet compete in One Championship,” he said.

With the new app, Mr Sityodtong added that fans would now be able to witness “a great display of martial arts action…at your fingertips”.

Fans will be able to catch three title fights at the One: Unstoppable Dreams event, with the main card to feature reigning One women’s atomweight world champion Angela Lee facing off against Japan’s Mei Yamaguchi.

Lee, who is based in Hawaii and Singapore, is making a return to the cage after sustaining injuries in a car accident last year which forced her to withdraw from her title fight against Yamaguchi last November.

She said: “It’s like a new beginning. I am excited to put in the best performance of my life and remind the world who I am as a fighter, as a martial artist, and as a world champion.

“I have missed the competition, the lights, the spectacle, and everything that comes with it. I live for this,” added the 21-year-old, who has been unbeatable in eight career outings.

Yamaguchi, 35, is looking forward to her rematch against Lee after losing the bout, and world championship belt, to her younger rival in 2016.

“Two years ago, Angela and myself put on a tremendous show for fans in Singapore, and we’re ready to do it again,” she said.

“I’ve made some key improvements to my game and I am excited to show everyone what I have worked so hard for.”

Muay thai veteran fighter Sam-A Gaiyanghadao will face Sergio Wielzen of Suriname in the co-main event, as both fighters face off in the ring to claim the inaugural One Super Series muay thai flyweight world title.

The third title bout will see reigning featherweight champion Martin Nguyen taking on Christian Lee – the younger brother of Angela Lee – at the indoor stadium.

Last November, Nguyen, 29, became the first man in the history of One Championship to hold two titles simultaneously in different weight divisions (featherweight and lightweight) after notching a knockout victory over Eduard Folayang of the Philippines.

Nguyen is confident of defending his title against his 19-year-old opponent. He said: “This bout is going to end only one way, and that’s with him finishing me or me finishing him. We are both explosive and skilled, so I don’t see this bout going the distance.

“I will defend my featherweight belt and prove to the world once again that I am the best in this division.”
