SINGAPORE ― A batch of popular household brand Singlong’s crunchy peanut butter has been recalled by the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority (AVA) after a metal screw was found in one of its bottles.
The AVA said in a food alert advisory on Monday (May 7) that it had worked with the importer to investigate the matter, and found that the metal screw could have been introduced during the manufacturing process of the product, which is made in China.
As a precautionary measure, the importer, Sing Long Foodstuff Trading, voluntarily recalled a specific batch of the product. The recalled bottles are marked for consumption by Jan 25 2019, and weigh 340 grams. The AVA said that the recall has been completed.
It also advised consumers who bought the product not to consume it. They can contact the importer for a refund or exchange.
This is the second food product that has been recalled by the AVA in three days, after a similar incident involving a batch of Frezfrut Natural Goodness Kaya on Saturday.
The AVA said that it had received feedback on a “foreign particle” found in a bottle of the kaya, which is made in Malaysia. After working with the importer to investigate, the authority found that it might have been contaminated with pest droppings during the manufacturing process. The recall of the product is ongoing, said the AVA.
