SINGAPORE — Philip Jeyaretnam, managing partner of law firm Rodyk & Davidson LLP, Senior Counsel and writer, will take over as Chairman of the Board for School of the Arts (SOTA) come Jan 31 next year.

He replaces Lee Tzu Yang, who in turn is replacing Theresa Foo as Chairman of the Esplanade.

The appointments were announced today (Dec 5) by the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY).

“Philip’s vast experience in various leading cultural initiatives will put him in a good position to lead the Board in charting SOTA’s next stage of development. I look forward to the Esplanade’s and SOTA’s continued contributions towards making Singapore a leading city for the arts,” said Lawrence Wong, Minister of Culture, Community and Youth in a statement released by the MCCY.

Along with being a member of the National Arts Countil from 2000 to 2008, a member of the Public Service Commission and the Presidential Council for Minority Rights, Jeyaretnam has also chaired the steering committee of the Singapore Writers’ Festival since 2007.

He will helm SOTA, Singapore’s first pre-tertiary specialised arts school for youths aged 13 to 18 years old.
