SINGAPORE — Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will make a working visit to the United States from Feb 10 to 16, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) announced today (Feb 10).

Mr Lee will visit the city of San Francisco from Feb 10 to 15 and Sunnylands, California, to attend the Special ASEAN-US Leaders Summit from Feb 15 to 16.

His last visit to the US was in June 2014 when he visited Washington DC and New York City.

In San Francisco, the Prime Minister will meet Governor of California Jerry Brown and business leaders from prominent technology companies such as CEO of Tesla and SpaceX Elon Musk, Apple CEO Tim Cook, Alphabet executive chairman Eric Schmidt and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the PMO said.

Mr Lee will also meet Singaporeans residing in the San Francisco Bay Area and host a roundtable with Singaporean technology professionals based there, as part of Singapore’s Smart Nation initiative.

US President Barack Obama will host PM Lee and other ASEAN leaders in Sunnylands. The leaders are due to discuss ASEAN-US economic and political-security cooperation and exchange views on regional and international issues.

The summit is the first of its kind and builds on the elevation of the ASEAN-US relationship to a “Strategic Partnership” last November at the 3rd ASEAN-US Summit in Kuala Lumpur, the PMO stated.

PM Lee will be accompanied by his wife Ho Ching, Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan and senior officials from the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), the Economic Development Board, the National Research Foundation and the Infocomm Development Authority in San Francisco. In Sunnylands, Mr Lee will be accompanied by Dr Balakrishnan and senior officials from MFA.

During Mr Lee absence, Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean will be the Acting Prime Minister. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
