SINGAPORE — Police are alerting members of the public of three cases involving four counterfeit Singapore $1,000 Portrait series notes.

The cases were reported from March last year, said the police in a statement today (March 20).

Two of the counterfeit notes were received by a member of the public outside Singapore, while another two notes were received by two business entities.

The police said each of the four counterfeit notes bears a nine-character alphanumerical identification reference “2AB6585xx”.

The fake notes also bear simulated security features, including a watermark, kinegram and security thread.

The surface of the counterfeit notes is waxy, unlike the tactile feel on genuine notes.

The police advise members of the public who suspect that they have received a counterfeit currency note to call 999 immediately, and to delay the presenter of the suspected fake note, if possible.

They also advise limiting the handling of the suspected note and placing it in a protective covering, such as an envelope, to prevent any tampering.

The suspected fake note should be handed over to the police immediately.

The police said information on the security features of genuine Singapore currency is available at MAS’ website.

They requested those with information on the reported cases to call the Police Hotline at 1800-255-0000 or submit the information online at www.spf.gov.sg/CrimeStopper, adding that all information received will be kept strictly confidential. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
