SINGAPORE — Your next Facebook friend could be a policeman who loves working out and drinking bubble tea.

Meet Inspector Clif, an avatar the Singapore Police Force (SPF) has created to educate and engage netizens on trending issues such as scams, property-related crimes and traffic-related matters.

For example, in a post he wrote on Oct 31, Inspector Clif warned netizens to be aware of scams when buying tickets to Halloween events.

Just like a regular Facebook user, Inspector Clif posts anecdotes of the day-to-day life of a police officer — from hanging out with a canine from the SPF's K-9 unit to preparing his uniform for work.

“Singaporeans are highly active in the digital sphere, and the police are continuously exploring new ways to help raise awareness of safety and security issues in Singapore,” Deputy Assistant Commissioner (DAC) of police Serene Chiu said on Friday (Nov 29), at a briefing to introduce Inspector Clif to the media.

DAC Chiu, who is also the deputy director of SPF’s public affairs department, hopes the avatar will become the “go-to source for the online community” on these issues.

Inspector Clif’s name is made up of the first letters of the police force’s core values: Courage, loyalty, integrity and fairness.
