SAF recognised for efforts in reconstruction of Afghanistan

SINGAPORE — The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and other members of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) were acknowledged for their contributions in Oruzgan, Afghanistan at a recognition ceremony at Multinational Base — Tarin Kowt in Oruzgan yesterday (Oct 28).

SINGAPORE — The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and other members of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) were acknowledged for their contributions in Oruzgan, Afghanistan at a recognition ceremony at Multinational Base — Tarin Kowt in Oruzgan yesterday (Oct 28).

Chief of Joint Operations Brigadier General (BG) Chia Choon Hoong, who represented SAF at the ceremony, said SAF was proud to have contributed to the global fight against terrorism and help the people of Afghanistan.

SAF deployed close to 500 personnel to Afghanistan as part of Singapore’s contributions to the multinational stabilisation and reconstruction efforts there, and concluded its mission in June.

The recognition ceremony was held to mark the closure of the Provincial Reconstruction Team which directed Australia’s civilian-led development efforts in Oruzgan. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
