SINGAPORE — Disciplinary action will be taken against a bus driver who made a rude gesture with his finger at a driver while they were driving along Tampines Avenue 7 last Tuesday (March 29), transport operator SBS Transit said.
A video of the incident was published on the Facebook page Roads.sg on Wednesday (April 6) and it has gone viral.
In what looked like footage taken from a dashboard camera, it shows the driver of the car trying to turn right at a traffic junction as an SBS Transit bus is approaching from the car’s left.
To avoid colliding with the bus, the driver slows down at the junction.
As the bus drives past, the bus driver is caught making a rude sign.
The Facebook post by Roads.sg said that the incident involving bus service 18 took place at 7.20pm that day.
It added that a police report has been made and brief details of the report were shown at the end of the footage.
The car driver’s statement in the report read: “My wife’s and daughter’s modesty was insulted and we were offended by his road rage behaviour.”
The driver’s wife, two sons and one daughter were in the car with him at the time, the report added.
In response to TODAY’s queries, Mrs Grace Wu, vice-president of corporate communications at SBS Transit, said that the company does not condone the behaviour of the bus driver involved.
“We have zero tolerance for such unbecoming behaviour as this is not in line with the professional standards we expect of our employees,” she added.
“We will be taking disciplinary action against him. We apologise to the car driver for the distress caused to him and his family."
TODAY has reached out to the police for comment.
