SINGAPORE — Firefighters were battling a raging blaze that had engulfed a warehouse in Jurong late Monday (March 9) night.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said in a Facebook post that it was alerted to a fire at 18 Jalan Besut near the Jurong River.
It is the address of Chasen Logistics. On its website, the company states that it specialises in transporting equipment for manufacturing.
SCDF said that when it arrived at the scene, the fire had fully engulfed a warehouse and more than 50 occupants had self-evacuated from the premises. There were no reported injuries.
“SCDF is currently mitigating the fire with seven water jets, two monitors and two Unmanned Firefighting Machines,” it added.
The contents of a warehouse, such as plywood, household electrical appliances and furniture, were caught up by the fire.
SCDF said that due to the intense heat, the warehouse’s zinc roof had completely collapsed, trapping the fire underneath it and hindering the firefighters’ access.
“Having surrounded the fire, the firefighters are inching their way through the rubble of heated metal to extinguish the fire,” SCDF said.
“This is expected to be a prolonged overnight firefighting operation.”
