SINGAPORE — More than 2,000 flats located close to the sea, near the main entrance of Coney Island in Punggol, will go on sale in the next Build-To-Order (BTO) exercise later this month.

Announcing the launch of the first two BTO projects — Punggol Point Woods and Punggol Point Cove — in the new Punggol Point District on Sunday (Aug 26), the Housing and Development Board (HDB) said they are expected to be completed by 2023.

The new residents of the 2,112 flats would be served by the upcoming Punggol Coast MRT station, located just across the two projects. Expected to be ready for operation similarly in 2023, the new MRT station is part of a 1.6km extension of the North East Line.

Punggol Point Cove, developed along the North-eastern shoreline, will feature five residential blocks with 1,172 units in total that are designed to “step down towards the promenade, so as to maximise the views towards the sea”, the HDB said.

The adjacent Punggol Point Woods, which is located further inshore, has 940 units. The six block of flats will feature “community living rooms” on their second-storey, offering views of a 1.5km-long Heritage Trail, which will offer seamless connection from My Waterway@Punggol to Punggol Jetty when fully completed.

Noting that the new developments will be just north of the Punggol Digital District — a 50ha area that is to open progressively from 2023 to house technology firms — the housing board said its close proximity will offer residents “employment opportunities in the future”.

The Punggol Point District is the fifth of seven waterfront housing districts planned for Punggol Town as part of the Government’s vision of building “a waterfront town of the 21st century” in Singapore.

More details on the two projects will be released during the August BTO sales exercise, the HDB said. However, plans for the Punggol Point District will be exhibited at the HDB Hub Sales Atrium in Toa Payoh, where the public are invited to “share their thoughts on what they would like to see along the Heritage Trail”.

‘GREEN HERITAGE’ DISTRICT

Envisioned as a “Green Heritage” district that embraces nature and pays tribute to Punggol’s history in the early 1900s, when it was known for its poultry, pig-rearing, fishing and fresh produce farms as well as rubber plantations, the HDB said Punggol Point District is “set to offer a tranquil living environment with a touch of nostalgia for its residents”.

Old Punggol Road — the main transportation route for the farmers, fishermen and traders in the past — will be pedestrianised to form the Heritage Trail. Certain features, such as an old bus-stop that once served only two buses that plied the area, will be retained.

The trail will link the Kelong Bridge, which was built across the Punggol Waterway in 2011, to Punggol Jetty, taking its users through a 10m “green buffer zone”, which would preserve the current undulating terrain on both sides of the carriageway at Old Punggol Road.

A total of 11 housing districts have been planned for Punggol Town, of which seven feature waterfront living.

To date, four of the seven waterfront housing districts have been launched, with some 25,700 flats in 31 Build-To-Order (BTO) projects in these districts offered for sale. The four are Waterway East and Waterway West Districts launched in 2010, Matilda District launched in 2013, and Northshore District, launched in 2015.

The HDB said all the BTO projects have been well-received, with close to 100 per cent take-up rate for most.

The remaining two more waterfront districts that are yet to be launched will be located at an inland stretch bordering Coney Island and in the area of the current prawn-fishing spot at Tebing Lane.
