Sengkang murder: 31-year-old woman accused of killing adoptive father held in remand for further psychiatric observation

SINGAPORE —  A 31-year-old woman charged with murdering her adoptive father at their home in Sengkang will be remanded for another three weeks for psychiatric assessment.

SINGAPORE —  A 31-year-old woman charged with murdering her adoptive father at their home in Sengkang will be remanded for another three weeks for psychiatric assessment. 

Tan Qiu Yan appeared in court via video link on Friday (Dec 2) and remained calm throughout the hearing.  

She has been held in remand since Nov 11 for psychiatric observation.

Tan is accused of killing the adoptive father, Tan Ah Bang, 67, at a 15th storey unit at Block 190A Rivervale Drive sometime between 8pm on Nov 3 and 5.25am on Nov 4.

Police officers responded to a call at around 5.30am on Nov 4 and found him lying motionless with multiple wounds inside a flat along Rivervale Drive. 

He was later pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene and the younger Tan was arrested.

She will return to court on Dec 23. 

If found guilty of murder, Tan could face the death penalty.
