SINGAPORE — Convicted serial rapist Azuar Ahamad, 44, was sentenced today (May 27) to 37-and-a-half years in jail and 24 strokes of the cane.

SINGAPORE — Convicted serial rapist Azuar Ahamad, 44, was sentenced today (May 27) to 37-and-a-half years in jail and 24 strokes of the cane.

His jail term, to be backdated to the day of remand (Aug 15, 2009), means Azuar will only be released when he is 65.

The former logistics executive pleaded guilty in August 2012 to raping three women and sexually assaulting a fourth. He also faced 30 charges of rape, sexual assault, outrage of modesty and theft.

Azuar had lured his victims, 22 women aged between 18 and 41, by striking up conversations with them on a Facebook dating app called SpeedDate. He would proceed to meet them at nightspots, where he would spike their drinks with a sleep inducing drug. He would then bring them to a hotel room, sexually assault, rape or molest them, and then send them home.

The victims were unconscious during the act, waking up with no memory of the sexual assault. When they called him the next day, he told them that they had too much to drink and passed out.

Azuar also filmed himself sexually assaulting some of the women on his two mobile phones.
