SINGAPORE — If you’re feeling nostalgic, SingPost will be releasing two new sets of stamps which commemorate Singapore’s rich cultural heritage.

Depicting vanishing trades and street scenes, the stamps will go on sale tomorrow (Nov 26) at all post offices, the Singapore Philatelic Museum and online at www.stampdelight.com.

The “Vanishing Trades” set features illustrations of local tradesmen, including cage makers, garland makers, kite makers as well as Chinese calligraphers. They come in denominations of S$0.40, S$0.60, S$0.70 and S$0.90.

There will also be a Special Collector’s Sheet of 14 stamps retailing at S$12.80, a Pre-cancelled First Day Cover affixed with four stamp designs, retailing at S$3.40, and the Presentation Pack with the complete set of four stamps, retailing at S$4.35.

This is the second edition of the series, following a series of 10 released in October last year, that contained vanishing trades such as the beaded slippers maker, kachang puteh seller, ice-ball seller and parrot astrologer.

The “Past Street Scenes” set on the other hand, features a street flea market and a riverside scene. They will retail at S$1.30 and $1.15 respectively, with the complete set priced at S$2.45.

A Special Collector’s Sheet comprising six stamps from both low and high value definitive stamp issues will also be released. It will retail for S$28. The Pre-cancelled First Day Cover with both stamps will cost S$3.25, while the Presentation Pack will cost S$4.20.

Both the stamp issues were designed by Ms Lim An-ling.

SingPost will also be offering festive postage rates for greeting cards posted locally or abroad between Dec 4 and Dec 25.

The postage rate for a greeting card of any size, shape or colour to a local address is S$0.30 (for weight up to 20g) and S$0.37 (for weight up to 40g), down from the normal postage rate of S$0.60 for non-standard greeting cards.

Postage to an overseas address, other than Malaysia and Brunei, will cost S$0.70 (for weight up to 40g), down from the usual rate which ranges from s$1.20 to $2. Postage rates for greeting cards posted to Malaysia and Brunei remain unchanged at S$0.50 for cards weighing up to 20g, and S$0.70 for cards weighing no more than 50g.
