SINGAPORE — The 20th Social Service Office (SSO) was launched today (July 24) in Yishun. The target is to have 24 of such offices spread out across Singapore by the end of the year.
By then, at least 95 per cent of needy residents will have access to social services within 2km of where they live and work.
It was launched by Minister for Social and Family Development Tan Chuan-Jin as well as advisors and Members of Parliament K Shanmugam, Assoc Prof Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, Dr Lee Bee Wah, Mr Patrick Tay and Dr Teo Ho Pin.
Minister Tan called on the wider community to work together to build a better community.
"And that collective strength is, I think, where it really makes a difference to the Singaporeans around us who need help, regardless of where they are, (and) their issues," he said.
Located at Blk 746 Yishun Street 72, the SSO will cater to more than 1,800 residents in the area.
Four more SSOs are to be launched by the end of this year, and residents of Sembawang can expect one to open in their district next month.
