Student gets probation for hitting police officer

SINGAPORE — A 21-year-old student has been placed on probation for 18 months for hitting a police officer.

Samantha Yeo Xian Hui had used criminal force on police staff sergeant Teo Zheng Zhi in January this year when she was trying to help her then boyfriend Desmond Lin Jiaqi, who was wanted by the police for failing to attend court.

Yeo had harboured Lin at her home at Lorong Liew Lian.

The police conducted a check and found Lin, who was hiding under the bed in Yeo’s room. She then tried to prevent the officers from handcuffing Lin.

In mitigation heard previously, the court was told that Yeo suffers from kidney failure and is a dialysis patient.

The court heard that she was doing well in her studies until her condition struck.

Given the mitigating circumstances, the district judge placed the offender on probation. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
