SINGAPORE — A 38-year-old school teacher was charged in a district court on Friday (April 24) with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy last month.

Court documents stated that the man allegedly performed a sex act on the boy in a men’s toilet cubicle meant for people with disabilities. This happened at the Junction 8 office tower in Bishan on March 2 at about 4pm.

The Singaporean man cannot be named because of a court order to protect the boy’s identity, as he teaches at the school that the boy attends, District Judge Lorraine Ho said on Friday.

A police prosecutor told the court that it is believed the man is “involved in several similar cases”, and that there was a risk of the alleged victim’s identity being disclosed if the man was named.

On account of this, the school’s name cannot be revealed either. The type of school as well as its location were not disclosed. The nationality of the alleged victim was also not made known.

The judge placed the accused man in remand and other investigations into his alleged conduct are being done.

If convicted of sexual assault by penetration, he could be jailed up to 20 years, and fined or caned.
