SINGAPORE — Two 17-year-old boys have been put on probation for hurting three others.

Yeoh Wei Jie, who was found to be more culpable, was put on probation for 24 months. He will be electronically tagged for four of the 24 months.

Yeoh’s parents also had to sign an S$8,000 bond.

His accomplice, Chai Ming Jing, is out on a bond of S$5,000 and has been placed on probation for 18 months.

The two will also have to perform community service of between 80 and 100 hours.

The incident occured on June 1, close to 8pm, after one of the three victims used a derogatory term in Hokkien dialect to describe Yeoh and his friends’ arrogance.

Yeoh confronted the victims, who are aged between 19 and 20, at a barbeque pit located at Pending Road.

The confrontation escalated into a fight where the group kicked, slapped and punched two victims and hit a third with a wooden pole.

Yeoh and Chai are the first of six to be dealt with.

The other four 17-year-olds are Zakery Lee Zi Li, Soh Teck Ern, Cai Jianyuan and Melvin Yap Jia Wei. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
