SINGAPORE — Three men who injured two senior citizens and nearly collided into a third man in separate incidents while riding an electric scooter or a bicycle were charged in court on Thursday (May 24).

Of the trio, Ho Jun Wei, 17, faced the most serious charge of causing grievous hurt by riding in a rash manner, endangering the life of others.

The teenager had allegedly hit 78-year-old Wong Ah Jee while riding his e-scooter on Feb 17 this year at about 3.30pm along Yishun Ring Road.

Mr Wong suffered fractures on his left eye socket and bones on and surrounding his nose as a result.

Jun Wei will return to court on June 7, when he is expected to plead guilty.

If convicted, the Singaporean could be jailed for up to four years, and/or fined up to S$10,000.

Sathappan Anbarasan, 33, who caused Madam Ng Yock Chun, 73, to suffer a four-part fracture on her shoulder was charged with causing grievous hurt in a negligent act.

The Indian national was purportedly riding his bicycle along the footpath of Simei Street 1 towards Jalan Pelatok at about 8.30pm on Sept 21 last year, when he hit Mdm Ng.

Anbarasan, who will return to court on May 31, could be jailed for up to two years and/or fined for up to S$5,000 if convicted.

A third case involving an electric scooter rider said to have used his e-scooter to attempt colliding into another man in a dispute was also heard in court.

Chew Hup Seng was charged with committing a rash act, as well as causing harassment to a man with his abusive behaviour and words.

The incident took place at a narrow corridor on the fifth level lift lobby of Keat Hong Community Club at about 10am on July 24 last year.

The 37-year-old Singaporean, who is believed to have bipolar disorder, allegedly used vulgarities to scold a man named Pedro JR Garcia Mondejar, telling him that he brought shame to his country and he should take the next budget flight back to his country.

Two minutes into the dispute, Chew then nearly collided into Mr Mondejar.

If convicted, Chew faces a jail term of up to six months for causing harassment and another six months for acting rashly.
