Three new MOE kindergartens hold open house

SINGAPORE — Three new Ministry of Education (MOE) kindergartens that will be opening in 2015 held road shows yesterday (March 22).

SINGAPORE — Three new Ministry of Education (MOE) kindergartens that will be opening in 2015 held road shows yesterday (March 22).

Parents had a chance to visit the three kindergartens — MOE Kindergarten @ Frontier, MOE Kindergarten @ Punggol Green and MOE Kindergarten @ Yishun — to learn more about the curriculum.

Earlier this month, Education Minister Heng Swee Keat announced that five MOE kindergartens will open in 2015.

Four of these kindergartens will be located within primary schools — Frontier Primary, Punggol Green Primary, Sengkang Green Primary and West Spring Primary — and one will be located in the community at Blk 318A Yishun Ave 9.

The two MOE kindergartens located in Sengkang Green Primary and West Spring Primary will hold their road shows on March 29.

About 50 parents attended the open house at Frontier Primary yesterday morning. They were briefed on curriculum, admission criteria and school fees.

Four-year-old Muhammad Fiqhar’s parents plan to enrol him at MOE Kindergarten @ Frontier, citing the opportunity for their son to learn his mother tongue as one of the reasons why.

“I would want my child to enjoy learning and have good positive social interactions with friends in school,” added his father, Mr Muhammad Fadylla.

Mr and Mrs Jonathan Goh turned up at the open house for the MOE kindergarten located within Punggol Green Primary school.

They wanted to check out the kindergarten even though their daughter is only due to attend kindergarten three years later.

They were disappointed when they found out that there is no affiliation between a MOE kindergarten and the primary school it is located in.

Still, they plan to enrol their daughter there.

Mr Goh said that he was sure the kindergarten would be leading the industry “in terms of setting up the framework and finalising the details.”

“I am quite sure the quality will be there,” he added.

There will be 540 places available at the five new MOE kindergartens next year.

All five kindergartens will provide care services that will cost S$360 per child each month before subsidy, while monthly school fees cost S$150 per child before subsidy.

The registration exercise for 2015 admission to Kindergarten 1 in the MOE kindergartens will be held on April 4 and 5, for Singapore Citizen and Permanent Resident children. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
