SINGAPORE — Technology firm and ride-hailing giant Grab Singapore has appointed Member of Parliament (MP) Tin Pei Ling as its director of public affairs and policy.
In response to queries, Grab confirmed her employment and said: "Pei Ling has deep on-ground understanding of digital economy and smart nation policy, and close ties with the local community.
"She will build partnerships and programmes to harness the positive potential of technology to create impact in Singapore."
Ms Tin, 39, is MP for MacPherson constituency.
National daily The Straits Times was the first to report Ms Tin's new role, adding in its report on Wednesday (Feb 1) that Ms Tin was spotted at Grab's Chinese New Year lunch for about 750 ride-hailing drivers.
In attendance was Grab Singapore's managing director Yee Wee Tang and Dr Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State for Transport.
Ms Tin was elected to Parliament in 2011. The People's Action Party member is also the chairperson of the Government Parliamentary Committee (GPC) for Communications and Information, and a member of the GPC for Culture, Community and Youth.
Ms Tin was the chief executive officer at Business China from May 2018, before joining the ride-hailing company. Grab's parent company is listed on the technology-heavy Nasdaq stock exchange in New York.
In a LinkedIn post, she announced that she left Business China, a non-profit dedicated to cultivating Singapore-China relationships, two months ago.
Before that, Ms Tin was the group director of corporate strategy of Jing King Tech Holdings — a financial technology company now known as Adera Global — and a business and management consultant at Ernst and Young Advisory.
