SINGAPORE — Flames engulfed a tipper truck on the Central Expressway (CTE) after the Bukit Merah Flyover during the morning rush hour on Friday (Sept 3), sending plumes of black smoke into the air.

There were no injuries reported, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said in response to TODAY’s queries. It was alerted to the fire at about 9am.

Firefighters put out the flames with two water jets.

The cause of the fire, which involved the truck’s front cabin, is being investigated, SCDF’s spokesperson added.

Footage of the blaze, captured by an in-car camera and posted on social media, showed a stationary truck in flames.

It was parked on the left shoulder of the CTE, in the direction of Seletar Expressway.

A warning triangle, suggesting that a vehicle had broken down, was placed several metres behind the truck.

A police officer on a motorcycle could also be seen dashing past slow-moving cars to reach the scene.
