SINGAPORE — Google today (Dec 10) revealed the top trending videos on YouTube this year; and based on the list, Singaporeans love two things: To sing and to laugh along with our fellow countrymen.

The top trending videos of the year are based on the number of views, shares, comments and likes that a video gets. In Singapore, eight of the top 10 trending non-music videos in were locally produced. Two videos by local content creator Tan Jianhao made the top 10 and YouTube channel wahbanana saw three of its videos on the list.

Meanwhile, female singers dominated the list of the top ten 10 trending music videos in Singapore on YouTube. Katy Perry, Iggy Azalea, Taylor Swift, Sia and Ariana Grande were in the top five.

The top trending video this year by local content creator Tan Jianhao, this humourous comparison at how teenagers behaved in the past and present now has over 1.97 million views.

4. 10 Types Of People In The Hawker Centre by wahbanana

Few things are more distinctively local than our hawker centres — it's also where we get to see and witness Singaporean habits from most walks of life.

5. Hello~, 过年几happy有没有？by OWL International

One of the surprises of the year, locally-based coffee manufacturer OWL International, which has been around since 1956, showed it was in touch with our local flavour of humour with this rap about Chinese New Year celebrations.

6. You Are Single For A Reason by wahbanana

The second video on this list produced by local studio wahbanana, this video highlights how clueless some men can be about women and relationships.

7. MALAYSIA CHABOR by Joyce Chu 四葉草@Red People

From across the causeway, the Malaysia Chabor (hokkien for 'woman') enchanted us with her beauty, lyrics and sweet charm.

8. 19 Types Of People In Cinema by wahbanana

Another look into the behaviour of everyday Singaporeans, this video showcase the most common annoyances we experience while watching a movie at the cinemas.

9. 25 Types of Singaporean Teachers by Jianhao Tan

We all have our favourite and least-favourite teachers from our school days. Love or hate them, our teachers have played a role in shaping our lives. 

10. 7 Awesome Apps We Wish Existed! by Ryan Sylvia

"There's an app for that!" — well, not quite, cause there are still some things that we wish our phones could do for us. Produced by another local content creator Ryan Sylvia, this video now has over 1.78 million views.
