SINGAPORE — Two people caught on camera sparring with light sabres on the rooftop of a Hougang multi-storey car park have revealed that they are actually historical sword fighting enthusiasts.

In a video uploaded to Reddit on Thursday (July 14), a user going by the name of "torofrandomini" said they were "glad" that many social media users enjoyed the two light sabre duelling videos that went viral at the end of June.

The person also said that they wanted to take the opportunity to introduce their "favourite hobby" to others.

Showcasing clips of two people wielding swords instead of light sabres this time, the video explained that they practise historical European martial arts (Hema) and try to learn various sword fighting techniques from medieval manuals.

They also noted that they wear padded clothing and guards for protection and use blunt equipment for training.

The second half of the video showed them switching to light sabres, which they claimed they like to "have fun with" from time to time.

The original videos prompted various references to the most famous wielders of light sabres: Characters in the movie franchise Star Wars.

One joked it was like the light sabre fight between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader, localising the names to Ah Nak Keen vs Ah Bi Wan.

Another suggested a new sequel for the popular movies — Stars Wars: The Lion City.

The individuals in the video however did not reveal their identities, age or gender.

Reddit user, Pantsu_sniffer, the name used by the person who posted the two viral videos on June 29 commented: "Ahhhh so it was you guys! I'd love to join y'all someday but I don't have a lot of light sabre experience."

Another remarked: "Glad to see Hema becoming more popular in Singapore!"

Some Redditors were curious to know how the combat art differs from fencing though no response has been forthcoming so far.
