SINGAPORE — Two establishments in Little India were found to have breached the licensing restrictions on the sale of alcohol yesterday (Dec 22), said the police in a press release, adding that the breaches were discovered during the police’s heightened patrol in Little India.
The first incident was detected at 12.46am, where police found a man with an unopened can of beer along Chander Road. The suspect then told the police that he had purchased the can of beer from a shop along Chander Road. The beer was seized and the police say that preliminary investigations have shown that the shop sold the beer during the stipulated hours of the Suspension Notice on Sale of Intoxicating Liquor.
The second incident was detected at 12.50am, where an eatery at Jalan Besar was found serving alcohol without a valid licence. The liquor in the store has been seized.
The police have said that they “view both incidents very seriously”, calling the sale of alcohol in both instances a “blatant disregard for the law and the measures announced under the restricted regime”. The police will proceed to charge the parties involved in Court under Section 71(1) of the Customs Act, CAP 70, for selling intoxicating liquors without a valid licence. The licence of the shop along Chander Road will also be suspended until the conclusion of the Court case.
The police also mentioned that one person was found drinking alcohol within the proclaimed area over the weekend, and that he will be issued a police advisory. The alcohol in hi possession was also seized.
