2 charged for separate murders in Teck Whye and Hougang

SINGAPORE — Two men were charged in State Courts on Friday (Feb 26) morning for two separate murders that were committed in Teck Whye and in Hougang recently.
Loh Suan Lit, 47, was charged with the murder of a man at a temple in Teck Whye almost two weeks ago and will be in remand for one week to complete investigations. He was nabbed on Wednesday (Feb 24) after investigations by officers from the Criminal Investigation Department, the police said in a statement on Thursday.
On the morning of Feb 14, the body of the victim, Tan Poh Huat, 53, was discovered by a worker who had unlocked the gates of the Chua Chu Kang Lian Sing Keng Temple, which is located in Teck Whye Lane. TODAY understands that the victim had sustained a head injury.
Police received a call for assistance at 6.59am, and Tan was pronounced dead by paramedics at 7.09am. Tan was believed to have been unemployed and had been living in the temple for the past five years.
In a separate case, Khor Tzoong Meng, 50, was charged with the murder of Mr Ang Kim Keat, 38, in Hougang in the wee hours of Thursday. He is represented by Fortis Law Corporation lawyers Josephus Tan and Tan Jin Song on a pro bono basis.
Police responded to a request for assistance at Blk 23, Hougang Avenue 3 and found Mr Ang to be badly injured. He was conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital where he was subsequently pronounced dead at about 3.28am.
Khor, the youngest of four siblings, was arrested in the vicinity of Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1 that same morning.
If convicted of murder under section 302(1) of the Penal Code, chapter 224, both men could receive the death penalty.
The cases will be heard again next Friday.
