SINGAPORE — U2 fans who could not get hold of tickets for the Irish band’s concert here on Nov 30 will have another bite at the cherry.

Organiser Live Nation announced on Thursday (June 20) that the band will be playing a second show a day after — on Sunday, Dec 1.

Both shows will be at the National Stadium, and will be the iconic act’s first concerts in Singapore.

The announcement follows an “overwhelming” response from fans, said Live Nation, after tickets for the Nov 30 show went on sale to the general public on Thursday.

Facebook user Judy Ann Hinde said she got up at 5am to queue at the National Stadium for the tickets on Thursday morning. In a comment on Live Nation’s Facebook page, she described it as orderly, “well organised and good natured”.

Another user Mohd Ali Hanafiah Othman said that he queued online for three hours before finally getting his tickets.

Fans who could not get tickets also took to Facebook to share their excitement over the additional night.

Mdm Sindhu Johnson, 32, told TODAY that she did not manage to get tickets for the Nov 30 show, despite being in the online queue for two hours.

“I am relieved that I got a second chance but anxious to go through the ordeal all over again without any guarantee of scoring the tickets. I’m hoping for better luck this time,” she said.

Pre-sales for the second show will open from 1pm on Friday (June 21) to 6pm on Sunday (June 23). During this period, U2.com subscribers will be allowed to buy up to four tickets each, said Live Nation.

Public sales will begin on Monday (June 24) at 10am, with a limit of eight tickets per transaction.

Mdm Johnson, however, said that buyers should be allowed fewer tickets.

“Four is a good number. Eight is too much. It will just give these scalpers opportunity to milk money off genuine U2 fans,” she said.

The concerts are part of U2’s Joshua Tree Tour, which kicks off on Nov 8 in Auckland, New Zealand, before moving to selected cities in Australia and Asia.

Second shows were earlier announced in Auckland and Sydney after tickets sold out there.

“We would like to urge all fans to refrain from purchasing tickets through unauthorised resellers as these may have already been voided and holders will be denied access to (the) venue,” added Live Nation on its Facebook page.
