Dewi Sukowati was clad in a red short-sleeve shirt in court. The petite 23-year-old with short dyed hair is accused of causing the death of Gan, 69, at 43 Victoria Park Road between 7.30am and 8.46am yesterday.
The case is adjourned to April 10. Dewi was remanded for psychiatric assessment.
Lawyer Mr Mohamed Muzammil told the court said is acting for Dewi at the request of the Embassy of Indonesia in Singapore. Speaking to reporters after the brief hearing, Mr Mohamed said Dewi came to Singapore recently and that she is from a village in Pati in Central Java.
This is the second time this month that a murder involved a maid. On March 4, Than Than Win, a 24-year-old maid from Myanmar, was charged with the murder of an 85-year-old Singaporean woman at Springdale Condominium in Bukit Timah.
