SINGAPORE — Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) is rolling out a series of video courses that will allow adult learners to pick up skills from well-known digital media personalities.

There are lessons on how to become a social media influencer and how to build a technology platform with millions of users, among others.

Called The Masters Collective, the courses will have people like Mr Marcus Tan, co-founder of online marketplace Carousell, and Ms Rachel Lim, founder of fashion brand Love, Bonito, sharing their experiences and offering tips.

They can be accessed online from later this year. Each course takes about seven hours to complete, said NP in a media release on Thursday (Aug 8).

The first course, to start on Sept 9, will feature some high-profile social media influencers: Bong Qiu Qiu, a "shopaholic" with 292,000 Instagram followers; Malaque Mahdaly, a former Singapore Idol participant with 186,000 Instagram followers; and vlogger Tan Jun Jie who co-founded The Meatmen Channel, an online channel featuring cooking tips.

The trio will share their experiences of how they became influencers and offer tips on how they maintain their social media presence, NP said in the release.

Love, Bonito founder Lim will teach course participants how to start their own fashion and lifestyle business. The course is set to start on Sept 16

Actor and director Alaric Tay will be sharing ways on how to break into the television and film industry, in addition to insights on producing and directing. That course is set to be offered on Sept 24.

The course on Carousell co-founder Tan has a target date of Nov 18.

NP said: “Besides presenting the compelling stories of these successful self-starters, The Masters Collective also covers a wide range of practical skills training that will be of relevance to aspiring entrepreneurs and individuals who are seeking self-improvement.”

Priced at S$90 before GST, Singapore citizens and permanent residents who are working adults are entitled to 70 per cent course subsidies and may opt to use their SkillsFuture Credit for the programme.
