SINGAPORE — A 29-year-old Indonesian woman has been arrested for her suspected involvement in abandoning her newborn baby, the police said on Wednesday (July 29).

They were alerted to the case at around 7.45pm on Monday, after the baby boy was found inside a recycling bin along Tai Keng Gardens near Upper Paya Lebar Road.

There were no visible injuries on the baby at the time. He was in a stable condition and was later taken to KK Women's and Children's Hospital.

After investigations on the ground, and with the aid of closed-circuit television footage provided by residents, police officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division identified the woman and arrested her on Wednesday.

The woman is believed to be the mother of the child. The police are looking into the identity of the infant's father.

The woman will be charged on Thursday with the exposure and abandonment of a child under 12 years old. If convicted, she may be jailed up to seven years or fined, or both.
