SINGAPORE — A 20-year-old woman was yesterday jailed 22 months for taking part in a savage attack on a French national and for taking drugs.
She had admitted to the offences earlier this month.
Investigations showed that in March, Nur Azilah Ithnin — then a student at the Institute of Technical Education — attacked Mr Didier Moise Dominguez, a 53-year-old manager, at his Marina Bay Residences home.
Mr Dominguez had engaged the services of a prostitute, Nuurul Aliyyah Abdul Talib, who is Azilah’s close friend. Aliyyah worked for Malcolm Graham Head and his girlfriend, Veronica Patricia Rio, a couple whose online vice ring was the second to surface after a high-profile case involving 51 men broke last year.
The district court heard that on March 3, Aliyyah was to have provided sexual services to Mr Dominguez for S$280.
Worried for Aliyyah’s safety, Azilah and three others — Head, Rio and Aliyyah’s brother, Ahmad Habiibul Hakim Assalafi — followed her in case she needed help.
After a misunderstanding broke out between Aliyyah and Mr Dominguez over the type of sexual services that would be rendered, she called her alleged accomplices for help. The group showed up at the apartment and allegedly punched and kicked Mr Dominguez. The attack left him with facial fractures.
Azilah also pleaded guilty to one charge of taking the drug ice.
The cases involving the others are still pending. KIMBERLY SPYKERMAN
