SINGAPORE — Football fans can catch free screenings of the Fifa World Cup 2022 at 58 community centres, five ActiveSG sports centres, the National Library Building's Plaza and the Singapore Sports Hub.

The People’s Association (PA), Sport Singapore and the National Library Board said on Sunday (Nov 13) that the live screenings will start with the World Cup’s opening match between Qatar and Ecuador on Nov 21 at 24 community centres and five ActiveSG Sports Centres.

Selected football matches will be screened at the Singapore Sports Hub in December, while screenings at the Plaza of the National Library Building on Victoria Street will be held on Dec 17 and 18, including the final match.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, Mr Edwin Tong, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, said: "Nothing beats the atmosphere of fans cheering together in unison as their favourite team scores a goal, or on tenterhooks in the last few minutes of a crucial game.

"And we want to bring people from all walks of life together, to build bonds and experience the electrifying excitement of watching the matches on a big screen."

In the joint statement by the PA, Sport Singapore and National Library Board, they added: “Aside from the excitement of the matches, PA will also be hosting fringe activities at the community centres screening the matches, for residents to soak up the football fever atmosphere and get straight into the sporting spirit.

“Residents can look forward to activities such as e-sports console games, various sports try-outs, Subbuteo and foosball table games, mini soccer challenges as well as live performances and prize giveaways.”
