SINGAPORE - JJ Lin may be one of Singapore's most popular male Mandopop artistes, but he is certainly no diva.
The singer recently made headlines after he was photographed sitting alone among empty chairs at the QQ Music Awards in Shenzhen. He had reportedly insisted on watching every performance, even after other artistes had left the show.
Speaking on the sidelines of Samsung Fashion Steps Out 2016 in Singapore, Lin explained that he did so because he feels "every performance is worth our respect".
"When I'm at work I try my best to enjoy every step of the process," he said. "Especially at awards ceremonies, it's a rare opportunity to meet other artistes, and also to witness their growth. The stage is a sacred space and I want to watch every performance."
Lin, who is based in Taipei, was back in Singapore to attend the Orchard Fashion Runway, which is part of the six-week fashion festival. Other attendees include local stars Sheila Sim, Hayley Woo, stylist Keith Png, and Iman Fandi Ahmad.
Lin also said that he intended to celebrate his 35th birthday today (Mar 27) with his friends and family in Singapore - something he has not done in years. He added that he was working on a documentary about making music, and may not produce a "traditional" album or concert this year.
And when asked if he had any tips for fans who loved to take selfies, the singer shared a simple trick.
"I think I take too many selfies," he laughed. "I think for me for me to capture a great selfie is to have a great smile. That's my trick."
