KUALA LUMPUR - Singapore's men cricket team created history on Tuesday afternoon (Aug 29) when they defeated hosts Malaysia in the Twenty20 final to win the Republic's first ever SEA Games gold in the sport which was making its debut at the biennial regional games.

Singapore had lost to Malaysia in the SEA Games 50-overs tournament a week ago.

As such, there were concerns that the hosts would make it two out of two with their team of experienced players against a Singapore side that featured several youngsters.

And yet it was Singapore, coached by Arjun Menon, who prevailed in the end as they beat Malaysia by three wickets with one ball remaining at the Kinrara Oval in Selangor.

The home side had scored 117 runs for seven wickets and Singapore replied with 118 runs for seven wickets.
