SINGAPORE — Singapore won their first two Wushu gold medals at the 28th Southeast-Asian (SEA) Games today (June 6) after displays from Vera Tan and Yong Yi Xiang in the Women’s Taijiquan and Men’s Changquan respectively.

Vera, 17, came out tops in her event at the Singapore Expo with a score of 9.69. She finished 0.04 points ahead of Malaysia’s Chan Lu Yi, while her team-mate Ho Lin Ying (9.64) took home the Bronze.

Singapore’s final Wushu medal haul at the 2013 Myanmar Games was one gold, two silver and two bronze, but Yong, 21, ensured the Republic would better that tally this year when he finished first out of 13 competitors in his event with a score of 9.70.

Indonesia’s Aldy Lukman claimed the silver, while Tran Xuan Hieo of Vietnam finished in third place to secure bronze.

Two more gold medals are up for grabs later tonight in the Duel Event – Weapons (Men’s and Women’s).
