SINGAPORE -- A clinical display from Singapore’s national men’s water polo team has earned them a place in the last four of the 9th Asian Swimming Championship in Dubai.
Earlier tonight, they beat Thailand 9-5, with goals from captain Eugene Teo (2), Lim Yaoxiang (2), Yip Yang (2) and one each from Paul Tan, Loh Zhi Zhi and Luo Nan.
It is Singapore’s best performance at a major international meet since the 1986 Asian Games in Seoul, where they clinched the bronze medal.
“We re-affirmed our dominace of South-east Asia as we continue aiming higher in the Asian arena,” said vice-captain Loh. “This championship is an important milestone on our journey to the 2014 Asian Games (in Incheon).”
They are likely to face Kazakhstan in Saturday’s semi-final.
