SINGAPORE — Rising teen talent Tia Louise Rozario set a new C Division Girls 80m hurdles record and national U-15 mark this morning (Apr 8) when she won her heat at the Choa Chu Kang Stadium in 12.35 sec.

The 14-year-old Singapore Sports School student sliced 0.11 sec off the existing C Div mark of 12.44 sec set by Jannah Wong in 2010. In fact, Tia ended up breaking two of Jannah’s records as her time also went under the national U-15 record of 12.37 sec set by the latter in 2010.

This is Tia’s third record at the National Schools Track and Field Championships. She had set a new C Div Girls long jump record with her 5.23-metre effort yesterday, which shattered the existing mark of 5.10 metres.

Trained by both national hurdles coach Viatcheslav Vassiliev and national jumps coach Valeri Obidko, Tia had been expected to break both C Div records after winning the Girls U-13 long jump at the Western Australia Little Athletics Association (WALAA) meet last month, and clocking 12.37 in the hurdles during training.

Tia was not the only record-breaker at this morning’s heats. Her schoolmate, Nur Izlyn Zaini, set a new Girls B Div 100m hurdles record when she clocked 14.77 sec in her heat. The existing mark had been 14.89 sec.

Both hurdles finals will be held this afternoon.
