SINGAPORE — A classic game played by many on their Nokia handphones years ago is making a comeback on the smartphone.

Created by Mr Taneli Armanto – the man behind the original Nokia Snake game – and game studio Rumilus Design, Snake Rewind will be released on May 14 for iOS, Android and Windows Phone.

In this modern sequel, Snake Rewind “takes the iconic elements and intuitive gameplay from the original Snake game and combines them with cool visual effects, sounds and innovative new features”, said a press release.

Players will be able to rewind the snake after crashing to continue the game and compete against friends and other players on high score lists. There will also be “lots of new special fruit types” and 10 levels each with its own visuals and music, the press release added.

The game will be free to download and is set to contain in-app purchases.

There are currently various unofficial versions of this game on the Apple and Google app stores.

The original Snake game was first released on the Nokia 6110 in 1997. Since then it has been featured in more then 400 million Nokia phones.
